Oscars 2024: Tonight’s Big Night – What to expect at the 96th Ceremony

Oppenheimer and Poor Things to battle for major film awards

Newsroom March 10 06:02

Only a few hours remain until the 96th Oscars ceremony, and soon we’ll see the winners take the stage and hold the golden statuette in their hands. The big favorite of the night is Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” with 13 total nominations, followed by George Lanthimos’s “Poor Things” with 11, Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” with 10, while “Barbie” has 8. Although this year’s predictions have already fairly accurately forecasted some winners, an awards ceremony like the Oscars always holds surprises.

Time and Place

The 96th annual Academy Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, March 10th, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be broadcasted one hour earlier than usual, at 01:00 AM Greece time (early Monday morning).

The Host

The host of the ceremony will be Jimmy Kimmel, for the fourth time. The famous comedian and television host is now a veteran of Hollywood’s big night, having hosted three times before: in 2017, 2018, and last year, in 2023. He ties with Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon. In a statement to the press, Kimmel joked, “I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times.”

The live performances

Prior to the ceremony, the Academy announced which music stars would take the stage. Representing the film “Barbie,” Ryan Gosling and Mark Ronson will perform the viral hit “I’m Just Ken,” while Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, will sing “What Was I Made For?”
