Maria Sakkari has built a streak against Caroline Garcia. This time she defeated her for the fourth consecutive time, with a 2-0 set (6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes), advancing to the “16” stage at Indian Wells, where she will meet another French player, Diane Parry.
After trailing 0-2 in the first set, Maria dominated completely. She won six out of the next seven games to take the set, and then led 3-0 with two breaks to ultimately secure the victory.

Sakkari was more reliable in her serves, although not serving well overall (51.6% compared to 47.8% for Garcia), but she won 76% of the points on her first serve, in a match with the peculiar statistic of…6/6 break points won for both players (4/4 for Maria, 2/2 for Garcia).
If there’s one element that prevailed, it was Garcia’s errors. Trying to press with her returns, she made too many unforced errors, but also made errors under Maria’s pressure, who proved reliable in her shots.
