Thessaloniki: Yeni Mosque opened for Ramadan after 102 years (videos-photos)

The first prayer started at 7:30 & concluded after half an hour

Newsroom April 10 10:45

After 102 years, the Yeni Mosque in Thessaloniki, which is used as an exhibition space for the Municipal Art Gallery, opened for the ceremony of breaking the fast of Ramadan.

From early in the morning, crowds of believers are arriving at the venue to pray, while police measures around the area are particularly heightened, with police officers stationed at the entrance and conducting checks as needed.

The decision was made by the General Secretariat for Religious Affairs, and the first prayer began at 7:30, led by the Egyptian Imam Taha Abd El-Galil, a Greek citizen and member of the religious committee of the Islamic mosque in Athens.
