The two minor adopted children, who were abused by their mother in Zakynthos and are staying at the island’s hospital, are refusing to see her and return home with her.
According to reports, the 49-year-old mother has been banned by a prosecutor’s order from seeing her children at the hospital, while social workers are at their side.
Mother found guilty of abusing her adopted children
On Monday, April 8, the court found the mother guilty of abusing her two minor adopted children and she was given 16 months probation. The charges against her were for domestic threats as well as serial and repeated domestic violence.
For her part, the mother’s lawyer had said shortly after the court’s decision that the case “has taken a big hit with what has been written, most of it unfair. She will return home to her children.
And along with the visits from social workers, it will all be fixed. It was testified by the children themselves that they miss their daddy a lot.”
The timeline of the case
It will be recalled that the authorities handcuffed the foster mother of the two minor children, following complaints made by neighbours investigating the case at a time when the children’s father ended his life a few days ago when he shot himself with his shotgun.
Devastated by the developments in the case are the relatives of the family, who had not realised that the children were being abused by the mother.
According to a person from the family of the suicide, speaking to protothema.gr said that the children’s father before ending his life left some notes and in one of them he wrote: “I love my children very much and that’s why I do what I do” leaving unanswered questions to his family and relatives. In the notes, he reportedly did not write the reason for ending his life, making the landscape surrounding his suicide murky.
A few 24 hours after the 49-year-old father committed suicide, the mother is revealed to have been abusing the children they had adopted.
Shortly before her husband’s funeral, she even posted on her Facebook account asking her online friends to donate money in lieu of wreaths.
“Please whoever wants to leave something for my children instead of a wreath,” was what she had posted.
Also, a person from the family of the suicide victim spoke to protothema.gr and said that the couple after many failed IVF attempts managed to adopt the two minor children.
According to the same person, the father was overjoyed while the mother seemed unhappy.
“The couple had been trying IVF for many years to have children of their own. But they did not succeed. So they took the decision to adopt two children.
The father was overjoyed when he and his wife managed to bring the two adopted children home.
The mother, we got the impression that she didn’t really want these children because she wanted her own.
The father’s insistence that they have children, even if adopted, was great.
We knew that there was some tension and trouble in the family, in fact there were more than a few times when there were arguments between the mother and the children. But that didn’t make us imagine that she was abusing them.
We also know that the mother in recent years has been given psychiatric treatment.
It was wrong that the checks on the family stopped after the children were adopted.
When her husband committed suicide and posted on Facebook that he was asking for money for the children, we realized he was using them as a piggy bank.
It’s a shame and a shame for the children to live in such situations, since we as relatives embraced these children from the beginning and made them feel like we were their rightful family.”
A few days after the death of their father, the minor children aged 12 and 9 respectively left home seeking help from neighbours as they said their mother was abusing them.
The woman to whom the two children turned for help informed the police and the 49-year-old mother was immediately arrested. The children were then taken to the hospital in Zakynthos.
After examination by doctors, signs of abuse were found on their bodies.
