Cyprus: Perpetrators shoot victim on the move

Victim rushed to Nicosia General Hospital in critical condition

A young man was critically injured and taken to Nicosia General Hospital after gunshot wounds in a residential area in Anthoupolis, Nicosia. The victim was riding a motorcycle when he was approached by two individuals also on a motorcycle wearing helmets. On the move, one of the perpetrators pulled out a gun and began shooting. The victim was shot with two bullets, one hit his upper body and the other his neck. The incident has been recorded by a closed-circuit security camera.

The perpetrators fled the scene and according to sources released to Protothema.gr the victim initially had his senses, communicating with his surroundings however, lost consciousness before he was rushed by an ambulance to the hospital.

The target was linked to organised crime known to authorities due to previous involvements. He had ties to Alexis Mavromichalis, who was murdered months earlier in Nicosia, and had been active in subsequent operations. The attempt took place near the Lakatamia police detention center, where the target had gone to visit a detained friend. The assailants, aware of his movements, followed him and attempted to kill him.
