Weather: Temperature to drop by up to 9 degrees tomorrow – Where will the storms and African dust hit

Friday is the most difficult day of the weather change

Newsroom May 8 11:25

The weather will change tomorrow, Thursday, and the day after tomorrow, Friday, with the main features of the bad weather being rain, thunderstorms, a drop in temperature and African dust bringing muddy showers.

According to meteo.gr, the reason for this change in weather will be the eastward movement of an atmospheric disturbance in the middle troposphere from the central Mediterranean to southern Greece.

The main characteristics of the weather during this weekend will be:

– Showers and local thunderstorms over most of the country, which during Friday 10/05 in the northern parts of Crete are likely to be locally heavy.

– A drop in temperature of up to 8-9 degrees Celsius compared to Wednesday 08/05.

– The transport of Saharan dust mainly in the middle troposphere, which in combination with rainfall will result in muddy rain in many areas as seen in the map group below. It is worth noting that Saharan dust concentrations near the surface will not be high.

– The strengthening of winds in the Aegean Sea with intensities up to 6-7 Beaufort.

– The possibility of hail showers in the southern Aegean.

Which areas will be affected by the weather change, see map below:

The EMY forecast:

On Thursday, intermittent clouds, with localised showers in the west and south and gradually in the rest of the country. Isolated thunderstorms will occur from midday in Crete and possibly the Cyclades, from midday in the eastern and northern mainland, while in the evening the phenomena will be limited in Thessaly, eastern Sterea, Evia, Macedonia, Thrace, Crete and the northern Aegean.

The winds will blow from eastern directions 3 to 5 and in the south 6 to 7 Beaufort. In the afternoon in the west it will become northerly 4 to 5 Beaufort. The temperature will drop mainly in the west, central and north and will reach 22 to 24 degrees Celsius, while in Crete 24 to 26 degrees Celsius.

On Friday in the west a few clouds in the west, with local showers and isolated thunderstorms on the mainland in the midday and afternoon hours. In the rest of the country cloudy with local showers and occasional thunderstorms mainly in the south. In the evening the phenomena will weaken.

Winds will blow in the southeast from southerly directions 5 to 7 and gradually northwesterly up to 6 Beaufort. In the remaining areas, winds will blow from northerly directions 4 to 6, in the Aegean Sea 6 to 7 and locally in the northern Aegean Sea up to 8 Beaufort. The temperature will drop in the south and rise slightly in the west.

TOn Saturday, partly cloudy with local rain mainly in the Ionian Sea and the mainland except Thrace. Isolated thunderstorms will occur mainly in the western mainland in the midday and afternoon hours. Winds will blow in the west from southerly directions 3 to 4 and in the Ionian Sea locally 5 Beaufort, in the east from northerly directions 3 to 5 and in the Aegean Sea 6 and locally 7 Beaufort. The temperature will drop slightly in the west.

On Sunday, a few clouds, partly increasing in the continent in the midday and afternoon hours with local rain and possibly isolated thunderstorms in the mountains. Winds in the west will be variable 3 to 4 Beaufort and in the east will blow from the north 4 to 5 and in the Aegean up to 6 Beaufort. The temperature will rise slightly.
