Kozani: Orphan bear cub found in the yard of a house – Watch video

The animal was chased by dogs and saved thanks to the reflexes of two people - It weighs about five kilos and is healthy

Newsroom May 17 03:26

A cute teddy bear, chased by dogs was saved thanks to the reflexes of two people in Emporio Kozani.

In the yard of Paul and Martha tried to find shelter, on the day of Mother’s Day, a teddy bear, only three months old, was rescued when the couple confined it to a safe place and alerted the Kozani Forestry Service and “Arcturus”.

Watch video:

When the Rapid Intervention Team arrived, they calmed the terrified animal by giving it some food and water and immediately began searching for the mama bear in a forest area near where it was found.

In fact, the bear cub was placed inside a makeshift structure from which it could not escape, but it would have been easy for the mother to get it out. The cries of the little bear could be heard for a long distance and would have been enough for her to locate it and reunite it.

Unfortunately, this did not happen and so “Arcturus” picked up the bear cub again the next morning and transported it to the Wildlife Reintroduction Centre where it will be raised for a year and then an operation will be conducted to try to reintegrate it back into the wild.

According to a statement from the organisation, the teddy bear was named Martha as a minimal payback to the lady who rescued her. Martha weighs about five kilograms and is in good health. The first signs are very encouraging, because she avoids her caretakers and maintains the behaviour of a wild animal.
