Thessaloniki: A second grade student who disappeared on a school trip has been found

Large mobilisation of Fire and Police for the child who was missing for about three hours - Drones and EMAK dogs were recruited to search for the girl who was found wandering in the forest

Newsroom May 28 04:41

An eight-year-old girl, a second grade student, was missing for approximately three hours in the Platanorema area of Zagliveri. She had been on a school excursion when, around 11:45 AM, it was noticed that she was no longer with her classmates and was lost somewhere in the Platanorema forest.

When the teachers’ own efforts to locate her proved unsuccessful, they quickly alerted the police and fire brigade to avoid wasting more precious time. The girl’s parents were also informed and rushed to the scene, filled with anxiety. The response was substantial, reflecting the urgency of finding the missing child.

Thus, for the search of the girl, who is a student at the 5th Primary School of Thessaloniki, in Analipsi, strong forces of the Fire and Police were mobilised, while drone and special dogs of the 2nd EMAK were mobilized.

At the same time, police officers who were familiar with the area of Platanorema were dispersed in the forest and at about 2.30 pm, one of them, who serves in the department of Kalindonia, managed to locate the child, frightened by the fact that he had been left alone, away from classmates and teachers for about three hours.

The Father’s Expression of Gratitude

A huge thank you to the police officers, firefighters and all the people who for two and a half hours were looking for his 8-year-old daughter who went missing in Platanorema Zagliveri, expressed the girl’s father obviously touched but also relieved since his daughter was found unharmed and reunited with both her parents.

Speaking to protothema.gr, just a few minutes after the police officers found his daughter unharmed, the father of the second grade student said: “I thank them all. All the people who helped to find my child. Thankfully everything went well. The police came, the fire brigade, the fire brigade, the EMAC, the whole world. God bless everyone.”

Speaking about the incident, he explained that “the child went as far as a spot and from what we were told by other children she managed to get out of a clearing across the road and crossed the main road, that’s why we took so long to find her. She lost her bearings. She was alone and she was lost on her own.

There was a little kid with her who got as far as a point and then turned around. Mine stayed a little longer and then lost her bearings. The teachers weren’t around and, once they found out, people all mobilised, the district, everyone. I, as soon as I was informed, I ran straight away.”

Finally, the girl’s father reports that his daughter was found within two and a half hours and that she is in very good health.

“The first thing she asked for was some water and ice cream. Fortunately everything went well. Thank you. Thank you to all the people especially the security forces. The teachers, the villagers, the whole village (Zagliveri) was mobilised,” he underlines excitedly.
