The repeated cases of fraud using the alleged rolling scam that have been recorded lately in regions of Macedonia have made elderly people cautious and thus led the “collector” into a trap with the money he had received from a victim.

Two residents of Florina informed the police that they had pretended to agree to pay the large sums demanded by a man and a woman who had called them on the pretext that their children had been seriously injured and needed to undergo immediate surgery.

An operation was immediately organised by the police officers of the Florina Security and the Amyndeon police station and the 48-year-old foreigner who was going to receive the money was identified. The private car in which he was riding was seized along with two mobile phones and 1,300 euros, which had been delivered a few hours earlier by an 83-year-old woman in Edessa.

The money was returned to the elderly woman and the 48 year old man was taken to the prosecutor of the Florina Plenary Court accused of criminal group and fraud by association, while his accomplice who was calling the potential victims is also wanted.
