The country is in a heatwave with the mercury soaring and temperatures hovering around August levels. Indicative of the wave of high heat that is creeping into the country is the meteo data with maximum temperatures as recorded up to noon on Tuesday.

The center of Athens was in a furnace with the mercury exceeding 38 degrees, specifically the thermometer showed 38.4 degrees.

In Elefsina the thermometer showed 39.2 degrees Celsius, while in Thebes (on the highway) it reached 39.1 degrees. In Agioi Theodoroi the thermometer showed 38.7 degrees Celsius, while in Aspropyrgos, Amfissa and Sparta 38.6 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist and director of EMY, Thodoris Kolidas published on X a table of temperatures recorded in areas of the Peloponnese.

“Elsewhere aura (27.9°C) and elsewhere havra (38.2°C),” he wrote in particular.

As shown in the meteorologist’s table, before 10:00 the temperature in Kalamata had reached 31 degrees and within only one hour it rose sharply to 37 degrees.

The weather forecast from EMY for the next few days:

The weather on Wednesday

Generally clear weather with sparse clouds in the Ionian Sea and the mainland, mainly in the afternoon, when mainly in the mountains there will be local rain or rain. African dust is favoured in the south. Winds will blow from northerly directions 3 to 5 and locally in the southern Ionian Sea and the Dodecanese region 6 Beaufort. The temperature will drop slightly in the northwest, but will remain high for the season, mainly in the central and southern regions, reaching 37 and 38 degrees Celsius in the eastern mainland and 34 to 36 degrees Celsius in other areas.

The weather on Thursday

Scattered clouds, occasionally more dense in the morning hours with local showers in the central and northern continents. In the midday and afternoon hours, clouds will develop in all continents and local rain and isolated thunderstorms in the mountains. Winds will blow from the north at 4 to 6 and locally in the Ionian Sea at 7 Beaufort.
