The Greek Police (ELAS) is grappling with a revenge porn scandal involving a 22-year-old police trainee and a 35-year-old officer serving in the DIAS unit of Northeastern Attica.

The officer, who has been arrested, faces felony charges, and a disciplinary review is already underway by the Police Headquarters.

Unveiling the Case

The case began to unravel after complaints were filed with the service, alleging the circulation of a video depicting the sexual life of the victim, who was identified as a police trainee. On June 16, 2024, the Directorate of Police Personnel ordered a Preliminary Administrative Examination (PAE) in response to website reports about a trainee officer appearing in an intimate video.

A team from the Cybercrime Unit visited the Police Officers’ School to verify the allegations. The investigation confirmed that the reports involved a trainee lieutenant. Both the school’s commander and the responsible officer, along with the victim, were formally examined. The victim pointed to the arrested officer, her former instructor, as the perpetrator.

Victim’s Testimony

The young police officer revealed that she had a brief romantic relationship with the officer in the summer of 2021. She emphasized that he was the only person with access to the incriminating video. Apparently unable to accept their breakup, the 35-year-old decided to seek revenge by leaking their private moments.

On Saturday afternoon (June 22), the Cybercrime Unit conducted a search at the officer’s residence, leading to his arrest within the limits of the flagrant offense. They confiscated a mobile phone and a digital storage device.
