At least 107 people were trampled to death, according to new police figures, at a Hindu religious gathering in northern India, reported the television network NDTV.
Ram Mohan Tiwari, a senior medical official in Uttar Pradesh, also spoke to AFP, expressing fears that the death toll could be higher. The incident occurred in a village in the Hathras district, about 200 kilometers southeast of the capital New Delhi. A local newspaper reported that there are fears of a higher number of casualties.
