Summer sales: They start today – What consumers need to know

Shops will be open this Sunday, 14 July

Newsroom July 8 08:40

The Summer Sale premieres today and will run through August 31, 2024.

The shopping stores will be open on the first Sunday of the summer sale, July 14, when they are expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

consumers should be aware that the sales are for summer season products. Conversely, the sales are largely for non-seasonal items, which are theoretically out of fashion.

What consumers should watch out for

Based on the directive issued by the National Confederation of Greek Commerce (ESEE) to the country’s trade associations, consumers should pay attention to the indication of the double price, i.e. the old and the new price of all items sold at a discount.

It is advisable for consumers to check carefully what they want to buy so as not to be surprised by defective or generally low quality products and of course to get a receipt.

Merchants at the start of the summer sales on July 8, 2024 are required by law to have a sign posted stating that there are promotions taking place and the products they sell should clearly indicate the original price and the final offer price.

According to Article 1 of Law 2251/94 consumers have the right to ask about the origin and quality of the product and traders have the obligation to answer these questions.

However, in case of non-compliance by traders then stiff fines are foreseen.
