Kefalonia: 20-year-old swimmer from South Africa who was missing was found dead

The young man was on a catamaran where he was working and at some point he dived into the sea to swim but did not come back

Tragedy unfolded in Kefalonia as the 20-year-old swimmer from South Africa who had been missing, was found dead early Friday morning.

The Coast Guard had launched a search involving a Corps watercraft, four private boats and a private diver. An Air Force helicopter also took off Friday morning. At the same time, land-based searches were also being carried out by members of the Coast Guard.

Finally, on Friday morning, a private diver found the lifeless body of the 20-year-old in the sea area of Sami Bay east of Kefalonia.

“My son went missing just north of Sami. Please help us find him. I know the coast guard is conducting a search. The more people who help, the better the chances of finding him. Please help us find Benjamin,” his mother said in a post that has been circulating on social media for the past few hours.

According to information reported by the local website Inkefalonia.gr, the young man was on a catamaran (on which he was working) approaching the bay of Sami and at some point he dived into the sea to swim, but did not return to it.
