Fire broke out on Monday night in a container located at Pier No. 2 of the PCT’s facilities at the Ikonion port of Piraeus.

According to information, the container contained hazardous materials (such as electric bicycle batteries), making the firefighting operation dangerous and difficult due to the very high temperatures and the high speed of the fire’s spread.

However, there was immediate mobilization of the fire brigade with four land-based vehicles, while the assistance of the fire tug PANORMITIS was provided from the sea, which managed to extinguish the fire in just 20 minutes of the hour through the use of its powerful fire fighting force (Fire Fighting 1 category) which prevented it from spreading to other areas of the PCT premises.
