Intensive work to open firebreaks in Marathon to strengthen fire prevention measures has been completed by Public Protection.
The new zones cover areas from the settlement to the dam at the lake of Marathon and to the southwest, i.e. towards the area of Stamata.
The increased protections cover areas where many campsites and suburban communities are located.
Despite the dry winter and the prolonged summer heatwave, the country has so far managed to prevent a large spread of wildfires, with Civil Protection officials remaining highly cautious, however, given the difficult weather conditions that will continue into August.
