The government is considering an increase in the child benefit as part of measures to support families, with the Ministry of Economy and Finance finding the necessary funds for the measure to be included in the so-called “TIF package.”
Wage increases have led to several parents not being entitled to child benefit this year, so there is a sum that could be used to increase the amount of child benefit.
Specifically, the reduction in beneficiaries has also brought a reduction in spending on child benefits of €156,172,114. This amount, equivalent to a 15.8% reduction in expenditure, could be used to increase either the benefits or to increase the income criteria so that those who had an increase in income would not be excluded from the benefit.
Currently, the allowance starts at €28 for one child and goes up to €140 for the third and above, scaling according to family income. On the table is also the allowance equalization or equalization of families with three children and large families.
