A quantity of cocaine the value of which exceeds one million euros was seized in the early morning hours of today by members of the Directorate of Narcotics and Smuggling, the Regional Narcotics Task Force and the Security Office of the Central Port Authority Piraeus.
Specifically, in the framework of the investigation and in cooperation with the Office of H.S.I. (US Homeland Security Investigations) of the U.S. Embassy in Athens, 30 packages containing cocaine with a total gross weight of thirty-four kilograms and three hundred and fifty-four grams (34,354 grams) were found inside a ship that had arrived at the Container Terminal at the port of Piraeus. The cocaine plates had been placed in the refrigeration mechanism of a container with a legal cargo of bananas that had been loaded at an Ecuadorian port. A search of two more containers followed with negative results.

The Central Port Authority of Piraeus, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, seized the drugs found, which will then be sent to the State General Laboratory.
