The Black Panther actress, Connie Chiume, has passed away at the age of 72.
The South African actress took her last breath in a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Tuesday, August 6th.
The news was made known by her family via social media, specifically through a post shared on her personal Instagram account.
In the post, it states: “The Chiume family regretfully informs you of the death of the internationally acclaimed and award-winning actress, Connie Chiume.”
In an interview with the South African news network Newzroom Afrika, her son, Nongelo Chiume, said that the actress was admitted to the hospital for a “medical procedure” before her death, without providing further details.
“We want to remember her as someone who was selfless and always wanted to see those around her succeed,” he stated.
Chiume appeared in Marvel’s 2018 film Black Panther as Wakandan Zawavari and reprised her role in the 2022 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

She also appeared in the musical film Black Is King directed by Beyoncé, released in 2020, as well as in numerous South African television shows and movies.
