A woman is the first victim of the fire burning in northeastern Attica for the third day.
The woman, who was working at a craft shop in Patima Chalandriou, was trapped in the building that was burned to the ground by the fire.
“We lost our friend, Nadia, we lost a very good friend and colleague,” a neighbor of the business told ERT.
For his part, the owner of the business said “Why didn’t she leave, I can’t understand. He worked for me for 20-25 years. I have 13-14 employees, most of them had quit because there was no work. And I’m at a loss, I don’t know what to tell you, and I’m surprised at what happened.”
Information reported by SKAI said the woman’s body was found charred in the bathroom of the business where she is believed to have tried to take shelter when she realized the fire in the building had spread.

Two of her colleagues who were in the building at the time the fire broke out are reported to have described that “we saw the flames and started running, we jumped over a fence. We were saying ‘come on, come on’ and she said ‘I want to get a phone’. We couldn’t do anything else.”
According to other reports, the unfortunate woman is over 60 years old, a foreigner, and was working at the craft shop near the area’s cemetery, on Anapavysos Street. At the time of the fire, all employees of the business left the building and during the count, her absence was noticed, but it was not possible to locate her.

It is recalled that in the last update of the Fire Department, the spokesperson, Mr. Vathrakogiannis, denied information that referred to a missing person. “In the last hour, there is a report of a missing person in the area of the fire, we inform you that so far the Fire Department’s Operations Center has not received a call or calls for a similar incident,” he had said.
Ultimately, as it turned out from her search, the 60-year-old had lost her life.
