A breathtaking video has been making rounds on the internet from Andros showing the difficult conditions, due to bad weather, in which passengers and vehicles attempted to board the ferry.
Specifically, it is the Saos Ferries’ SAONISOS vessel which had docked at the port of Gavrio late Thursday afternoon. After unloading, bad weather hit the ship, resulting in a car being seen in the video circulating unable to get on board and citizens trying to push it while they themselves eventually run to board.

According to protothema.gr’s information, the captain realised that while loading the ship, it was swept away by the bad weather as at that time winds of 7-8 Beaufort were blowing in the area. After the ties were untied, he decided that the best solution would be to start his route to Karystos.
At that moment a car was on the edge of the pier before the hatch. Unable to proceed any further, passengers and workers on board tried to push it backwards, despite the fact that the ship was departing. Then as shown in the extract they ran to board risking their lives.
During the incident a total of three vehicles and a total of seven passengers failed to board, and there will be an investigation by the port authority as to what exactly happened. The company has reportedly arranged for the passengers to stay overnight while they are expected to depart for their destination on the first itinerary on Friday morning.
