The accused allegedly set four fires in Glyka Nera on August 11 the same day as the massive fire in Varnavas.
Specifically, he allegedly created three fire outbreaks that broke out simultaneously at about 1:30 p.m. in Glyka Nera, 100 meters apart, and another fire at 8:30 p.m. on the same day. The accused allegedly started the fires by moving his car as he was speeding and throwing the burning object into dry grass.
The 80-year-old was identified from video footage and cans used for petrol were found in his car. According to reports, the accused did not accept the charge against him, while a defense witness testified before his plea.
