The special police unit SEK has arrested a possible suspect in connection with last night’s knife attack in Solingen, Germany which resulted in the deaths of three people and the injury of eight others.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the incident as a “terrible event.”
According to the newspaper BILD, SEK arrested a man early this morning at his parents’ apartment after receiving a tip from a witness who recognized the suspect from a previous offense. However, it is not yet clear whether this is indeed the perpetrator of last night’s attack.
In a post on the platform “X,” Chancellor Olaf Scholz mentioned that he has communicated with the city’s mayor, Tim Kurzbach, and expressed being “deeply shocked” by the attack. “We mourn the victims and stand by their families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. The perpetrator must be apprehended quickly and punished to the fullest extent of the law,” Mr. Scholz stated.
