During the event, the tool supporting this strategy, the digital platform erga.gov.gr, was introduced. For the first time, significant projects implemented by both the central government and local authorities are recorded, allowing for continuous and transparent monitoring.
“When we came to power, I asked a simple question: Do we know which projects are being implemented across the country at all levels—national, regional, municipal? The answer was ‘no.’ And if we don’t know, we can’t measure, evaluate, or be accountable to the citizens. That’s why this platform we’re launching today, erga.gov.gr, is so important,” emphasized the Prime Minister.
Through the erga.gov.gr platform, citizens can monitor the progress of projects with a budget over 1 million euros at any time in each Municipality, Regional Unit, or Region.
This platform ensures transparency and accountability at all levels of governance and facilitates cohesive planning through the effective execution of projects aimed at development, eliminating local exclusions, and addressing regional inequalities.
More than 6,000 projects have already been registered in the database.
The entire lifecycle of a project will be recorded on the platform, from the initial design and maturity study stage to its inclusion in specific funding tools, the tendering process, contracting, and finally, execution.
During his visit to Thessaloniki ahead of the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair, the Prime Minister had successive meetings with production and scientific entities from Northern Greece, as well as with Mayors of Central Macedonia.
Mitsotakis: Metro to be Delivered on November 30th
“The Thessaloniki Metro will not just be inaugurated; it will be delivered to the city’s citizens on November 30, 2024, in 95 days from now,” stated Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the event on the “National Strategy for Regional Development / Presentation of the Digital Platform erga.gov.gr” at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall.
“Thessaloniki is changing. It’s changing at a very fast pace. No government has implemented more infrastructure projects for Thessaloniki than this government,” the Prime Minister highlighted, after the progress in executing significant projects for the city and broader Central Macedonia was presented, with a focus on transport, health, entrepreneurship, environment, and culture sectors.
“In the next four years, Thessaloniki will have the most modern cancer hospital and the most modern pediatric hospital in the country,” noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Regarding public transportation and the 110 new electric buses serving routes in Thessaloniki, the Prime Minister emphasized, “Obviously, we are not stopping there. Our goal is not just to replace old buses, but to increase their total number so that the public transport system of Thessaloniki, with new, modern, eco-friendly, and accessible buses, can meet all the needs of the metropolitan area.”
Regarding the “Flyover,” Mitsotakis stated that it is a project “progressing rapidly.” “Our intention is for the Flyover to be ready before the spring 2027 elections, with the contractual completion date being May 2027. We will work to ensure this project becomes a reality,” he added.
The ongoing regional development plan for Central Macedonia includes more than 850 projects, with a total cost of 13.5 billion euros.
Currently, 610 projects are underway. Of these, 294 are being implemented, 130 are in the tendering process, and 186 are integrated or contracted.
The projects include the construction of the Thessaloniki Metro, which will begin operation on November 30th, along with 45 road and eight railway projects, 17 urban renewals, 16 flood control interventions, 25 cultural projects, and 37 health projects.
