The ground and aerial firefighting battle means the fire burning in a difficult spot on Mount Paggaio, in Kavala, continues for the sixth day.
280 firefighters, 46 firefighting vehicles, and 25 hiking sections are operating on the fire front, while 5 helicopters and a firefighting aircraft are carrying out aerial drops. Residents and volunteers also assist in the extinguishing work.
No populated areas are threatened by the fire, but firebreaks are being created around the settlements of Paggaio as a precautionary measure. The fire broke out last Thursday, having burned more than 20,000 acres of scorched land with low vegetation.
