With no active front, the fire that broke out on the morning of August 26, 2024, in Taygetos is without an active front, according to a post on “X” by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, adding that the firefighting forces, who “day and night fought a hard battle” are facing “only scattered outbreaks.”
Specifically, Kikilias stresses:
“On Monday morning on Taygetos at 1,100 meters, a fire broke out, probably caused by lightning. From the very first moment, 7 airborne means alongside 5 teams of forest rangers and firefighters operated in a difficult, inaccessible, and very steeply sloping mountain. Day and night they fought a hard battle and now the fire has no active front, only scattered outbreaks. They will remain in the field until the last spark is extinguished.”
