“Unprecedented” is how TUI from Germany describes the demand for vacations in autumn, adding two Greek islands to the top destinations for September. In addition, Europe’s largest travel agency, precisely because of the looming demand, says it will extend the end of this season with additional “packages” to top Mediterranean destinations including Crete, Rhodes and Kos.
According to TUI Germany head Stefan Baumert, the group is seeing an increase in demand this year for coastal destinations in the Mediterranean aimed at autumn getaways, while at the same time, alongside demand, on a business level, TUI itself is attempting to capitalise on the bankruptcy of its FTI travel agency (with repercussions in Greece) at the beginning of this summer, now offering significant discounts to attract additional customers in the immediate future.
As for the destinations with the highest demand for autumn, Turkey is the big winner, obviously because of … price. According to Baumert, Antalya is currently the top destination for autumn holidays, with the Turkish Riviera in particular outperforming Mallorca. After Antalya and Majorca, Crete and Kosos follow in third and fourth place on the list of the most popular destinations for travellers, while destinations on the Red Sea such as Hurghada and Marsa Alam in Egypt are also in high demand.
