Urgent Weather Bulletin from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) – Severe Weather Expected from This Afternoon

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued an urgent weather bulletin indicating worsening conditions from the afternoon of Thursday through Saturday

According to the forecast, from today, Thursday, and continuing until Saturday, significant deterioration in weather is expected across most of mainland Greece, with intense rain and thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and localized hail showers.

  • Thursday (29-08-24): The weather will affect the mainland, particularly Epirus, Central Greece (mainly the western parts), the Peloponnese (western and central regions), and Central Macedonia (mainly Chalkidiki) during the midday to afternoon hours.
  • Friday (30-08-24): In the morning, the Ionian Islands will experience adverse conditions. From midday through the evening, the weather will impact Epirus, the Peloponnese, Central Greece (especially central and eastern parts, including Attica), Euboea, the Sporades, Thessaly, Central Macedonia (mainly Chalkidiki), and Eastern Macedonia.
  • Saturday (31-08-24): In the morning, Thessaly, the Sporades, and Euboea will be affected. From midday through the afternoon, conditions will worsen in Epirus, Central Greece (including Attica), and the Peloponnese.

The detailed bulletin notes:

“Cold and unstable air masses will cover our country over the next three days, causing a deterioration in weather from Thursday (29-08-24) to Saturday (31-08-24) over most of mainland Greece, with intense rain and thunderstorms accompanied by frequent lightning and localized hail showers. Occasionally, these phenomena may be accompanied by very strong winds (squalls).”
