Constantinople: Meeting of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne

Hierarchs from all over the world participate - Ecclesiastical and social issues under discussion

The work of the Synax of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne in Constantinople began yesterday, 1 September, a day coinciding with the start of the new Church Year and now established by the Ecumenical Patriarchate as a day of prayer for the environment. The work concludes tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 September.

The subject of the discussions is not only ecclesiastical but also social issues.

Indicatively, issues such as the war in Ukraine, the connection between Artificial Intelligence and the Church, the relationship between youth and Church are to be highlighted.

The Synaxis of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne is an institution initiated by the Ecumenical Patriarch Mr. Bartholome and is held every three years. It is recalled that the previous Synaxis of the Hierarchy of the Ecumenical Throne was held in Istanbul in September 2021, with the dominant topic at that time being the pandemic of the coronavirus.

His Holiness yesterday welcomed Hierarchs from all over the world, addressing his introductory speech yesterday, followed by the address of His Eminence Metropolitan Elder Chalcedon Emmanuel.

The Synaxis is attended by Hierarchs of the Throne from all over the world as well as Prelates of the Church of Greece, who are under the spiritual jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, i.e. the “New Countries”, while at the same time they are members of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece.

With regard to the speakers and the content of their contributions, the following applies:

His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of Old Chalcedon, introduced the topic: “The Ukrainian issue and Orthodoxy in the Baltic countries”

His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria presents the topic: “Inter-Orthodox Relations in the so-called ‘Diaspora’ since the beginning of the war in Ukraine”

His Eminence Metropolitan Job of Pisidia presents the topic: “Developments in the Theological Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches – The Alexandria Text”

The Archbishop of Thyatira and Great Britain, Mr. Nikitas, Archbishop of Thyatira and Great Britain, presents the topic: “The Testimony of the Constantinopolitan Church to the Council of European Churches (CEC) and to the Forum for Dialogue between the Orthodox Churches in Europe and the Council of Bishops’ Synods of the Roman Catholic Church in Europe (CCEE)”

His Eminence, Metropolitan Stephen of Kallioupolis and Madydos presents the topic: “The Typikon and the Liturgical Tradition of the Great Church and the deviations observed therefrom”

His Eminence Metropolitan Maximos of Ioannina presents the topic: “Canonical input through the General Information Media?”

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia presents the topic: “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Church”

His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki presents the topic: “Youth and the Church”

Professor George – Stylianos Prevelakis presents the topic: “The “Russian World”, the focus and instrument of Russian geopolitical strategy”

“The World Geopolitical Forum”, the center and the center of the “political and political strategy of Russia”.

His Eminence Metropolitan Myron of New Zealand presents the topic: “The Orthodox Mission in the Antipodes”

Archimandrite Peter, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of St. John the Baptist Essex, presents the topic: “Monasticism in the Orthodox Church in the 21st century”
