The video shows the whale lifting the guide off the coast of Southport Harbor.

According to Jacqueline Payne, who filmed the scene with her husband Max Persin, “The whales had been swimming with us for about 20 minutes, and they kept getting closer. We didn’t expect them to come so close, but they were very curious, as our guide told us, which is quite rare.”

While the group was swimming, they suddenly heard screams from the accompanying boat. “We turned to look and saw our guide flying through the air,” Mrs. Payne said.

After the group returned to the boat, it was explained to them that the whale had been heading toward another member of the group, and the guide pushed them out of the way, resulting in him being launched into the air.

They were told they were very lucky to witness the grandeur of such a whale in this way.
