Warner Bros has released the trailer for the science fiction movie Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon Ho, marking his highly anticipated return after the Oscar-winning film Parasite in 2019.
His new film is based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, with Robert Pattinson in the lead role. Pattinson plays a “disposable” employee named Mickey Barnes, who is sent on dangerous missions to colonize the frozen world of Nifheim.
Watch the trailer:
Whenever a mission becomes dangerous, the crew turns to Mickey, as when he dies, he “regenerates” as a clone, with most of his memories intact. While Mickey 7 is presumed dead, he returns to the mission base only to discover that a new clone, Mickey 8, has taken his place.
The cast also includes Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie.
Bong Joon Ho not only directs and writes the screenplay but also produces through his company Offscreen.
Joining him in production are Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Joon-Ho, and Dooho Choi, while Brad Pitt, Jesse Ehrman, Peter Dodd, and Marianne Jenkins serve as executive producers.
According to Variety, Mickey 17 is set to premiere in U.S. theaters on January 31, 2025.
