The Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday (26/9).
According to a statement from the Italian government, the main topics of discussion were the illegal immigration issue and, in particular, Berlin’s decision to re-adopt controls at its land borders, as well as other initiatives aimed at combating illegal immigration.
Meloni and Scholz agreed to stay in close contact, with the aim of strengthening the internal and external dimension of migration policy in Europe, closer cooperation with migrants’ countries of origin and transit, returns and the fight against human trafficking.
