More than 5,000 recruitments related to hospitals and Primary Health Care (PHC) have already “run” or are planned to proceed in 2024. The advertisements for permanent positions for doctors, nurses, and other staff are aimed at strengthening the National Health System (NHS), which has significant shortages. Despite the efforts of the Ministry of Health, however, not all of the advertised positions are filled, as the interest of health professionals remains in limbo in many cases.
A typical example is the one-third of doctor positions that came up empty last March and are expected to be re-advertised in the coming days. This is, according to ygeiamou.gr’s information, about 240 positions out of the total of 726 positions of permanent doctors that the Ministry of Health put out seven months ago. These positions fall under the Health Ministry’s new financial incentives for arid areas that even reach 7,200 euros more per year for 18 medical specialties.
