Blinken: US-Cyprus Relations Reach Unprecedented Strength

Regarding the Cyprus issue, the US Secretary of State clarifies that Washington remains fully committed to the UN framework

Newsroom October 1 08:30

The ties between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus have never been stronger, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken underscores in the congratulatory message issued by the State Department to mark the 64th anniversary of the Republic of Cyprus’ independence.

“The Republic of Cyprus and the United States are partners in the pursuit of a more peaceful and prosperous world and share a commitment to democracy and freedom,” Anthony Blinken said in the statement.

The U.S. diplomatic chief expresses Washington’s gratitude for Cyprus’ continued efforts to strengthen the rule of law. He also refers to Cyprus’ leadership role in regional security issues and its continued assistance in supporting civilians in times of crisis.

As he stresses, “The bonds between our nations have never been stronger, and we look forward to continuing to deepen our bilateral relations.”

On the Cyprus issue, the US Secretary of State makes clear that Washington remains fully committed to the UN framework that envisions a comprehensive Cyprus-led settlement for the reunification of the island based on a bizonal and bicommunal federation with political equality for all Cypriots.

“The United States remains your steadfast partner and believes in the resilience of the Cypriot people. I extend my warm greetings and best wishes to the Cypriot people and look forward to another year of cooperation between our peoples,” Anthony Blinken concluded in his congratulatory message.
