A car accident with two fatalities occurred shortly after 15:30′ at noon on the Itea – Nafpaktos highway at about 24.6 km at the height of Agios Vasileiou.

Under unknown circumstances, a private car with an elderly couple as passengers crossed into the opposite current, where it collided head-on with another vehicle heading towards Nafpaktos and also two passengers aged about 30 years old, according to lamiareport.gr.

The passengers of the second vehicle were also the ones who alerted the authorities and ambulances, police cars, and three fire trucks were rushed to the scene and undertook the task of extricating the elderly couple. According to tvstar.gr, death for the couple, who were trapped in the sheet metal of their car, was instantaneous.

A preliminary investigation for the exact causes of the accident was undertaken by the Itea Police Department, while an autopsy was ordered.
