Thessaloniki to embrace “cinematic” mode starting tomorrow

The 65th Thessaloniki Film Festival returns strongly with sponsor Eurojackpot

Twenty-eight years after The English Patient, Count Almasy and Hana meet again in Thessaloniki, during the International Film Festival, which begins tomorrow and is expected to be a landmark event for the city and the global film industry. Eurojackpot, the popular European lottery game brought to Greece by OPAP, is this year sponsoring Greece’s premier cultural event, the 65th Thessaloniki Film Festival, which takes place from Thursday, October 31, to Sunday, November 10, 2024.

As part of the Festival, the iconic film The English Patient will be screened on Friday evening, in the presence of the two leading actors, Oscar-winning Juliette Binoche and Oscar-nominated Ralph Fiennes, who will be honored with an honorary “Golden Alexander.” Additionally, the two legends of world cinema will attend the premiere of Umberto Pasolini’s film The Return, in which they collaborate for the third time in their careers.

Ten Days with Over 250 Films

During the 65th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, 252 feature and short films will be screened in theaters in the city center. Audiences will be welcomed by the renovated Olympion and Pavlos Zannas theaters, as well as the Frida Liappa, Tonia Marketaki, John Cassavetes, and Stavros Tornes theaters at the Port, and the Macedonian cinema. Additionally, 67 films will be available online, providing viewers the opportunity to enjoy the screenings from the comfort of their homes.
