Hundreds of international observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) are closely watching the crucial US election. Among them are Greek parliamentarians. Maria Antoniou of the New Democracy Party, Miliadis Zambaras of SYRIZA and Giorgos Nikitiadis of PASOK who are in the American capital are recording all the developments concerning the election process.
The three Greek MPs spoke to protothema.gr and Giorgos Michaelides about their impressions and how the voting is progressing in the polling stations of the American capital.
Maria Antoniou (ND) referred to the extreme polarization that has prevailed in recent days in the American society, but as she pointed out, since the polls opened, everything is running smoothly. “There is a very large participation and this is good for democracy,” he said, noting that more than 4,200 voters had voted at the 1st polling station and within an hour…
Miltiadis Zambaras of SYRIZA also referred to the high participation in the electoral process and the climate of polarization that is pervasive in America for the Trump-Harris election. This climate of polarization will also be reflected in the observers’ reports, the SYRIZA MP noted.
PASOK’s Nikitiadis noted that the OSCE observers have been invited by the US government to observe the election process and that their purpose is to observe whether the elections are proceeding smoothly.
“At this particular polling station we found that everything is proceeding smoothly,” Nikitiadis said, noting that he, along with Ms. Antoniou and Mr. Zambara, will visit 18 polling stations in order to prepare their findings.
