China said today that it hopes for a “peaceful coexistence” with the US at a time when Donald Trump appears, according to predictions, to be at the gates of the White House.

“We will continue to approach and manage China-US relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular briefing for reporters.
