Adonis Georgiadis, Greece’s Minister of Health, referred to the recent events in SYRIZA and its emergency congress over the weekend as a “junta.”

“These 87 people decided to take over their party and they succeeded. But they are not fighting for the ideas of the Left; they are fighting for state funding. It’s all about the money,” Georgiadis said.

“As SYRIZA shrinks, the influence of Polakis grows, so their chances of him being elected new president increase. After Kasselakis, the grand finale of the big gift that SYRIZA is giving me will be if Polakis becomes president. If I live to see that…” the Health Minister humorously added.

Regarding Kasselakis’ new political party, Georgiadis commented, “A person who is not a politician cannot do anything significant politically,” adding, “The creation of a new party was Stefanos Kasselakis’ Plan B. If at your biggest moment, when you’re prepared and know you’ll be in the spotlight, you say ‘Iakovos Kampanelos,’ then you just say ‘ok, goodbye.’”

On the possibility of PASOK becoming the official opposition, he stated: “PASOK – although I am saddened by its stance of saying no to everything in Parliament – is incomparable as a party to SYRIZA; it has nothing in common.”

Regarding his ministry, Adonis Georgiadis announced that tomorrow, a bill for personal doctors would be presented in Parliament, along with the announcement of the start date for the first free afternoon surgeries.
