A new round of testimony begins in the August 2024 death of 15-month-old Panagiotis, and his father says he is certain it was foul play. A solution to the mystery of the five dead infants in Amaliada is expected to be provided by the Homicide Department, which has taken over the investigation, while Irini Mourtzoukou says she is “happy” about this development.
People who knew facts about Panagiotis both on the day he passed away and the previous evening are expected to testify. On Monday (11/11), a distant relative of Panagiotis’ mother, who was at home the night before he breathed his last breath, is expected to testify to the Security.
According to her testimony, the child was unwell the night before and vomited. She bathed it and then the mother returned home. According to the witness, she did not see anything suspicious during the night when she stayed at the house.
In the coming days, Panagiotis’ mother is expected to give additional testimony, following a prosecutor’s request.
Irini Mourtzoukou: “I am glad that Athens Security has taken over the investigation”
For her part, Irene Mourtzoukou, commenting on the decision to have Homicide take over the investigation, said: “I am glad that the case was taken over by
Athens Security. I am not afraid of anything, they can look for whatever they want, and there is no criminal activity. The police say that Panagiotakis’ tests came out clean, so I expect the rest to come out. I want to find out what the kids ‘ran away’ from.”
“Sure there is criminal activity”
For her part, the lawyer for Panagiotis’ father, Katerina Mavroidis, says her client is sure there is criminal activity.
“With the instantaneous death of his child, suspicions were raised that there could be no pathological causes. He had suspicions from the beginning without being able to focus them. He is sure that there is a criminal act by a certain person,” Mavroid told The STAR.
It will be recalled that Panagiotis’ father, Dionysios Avramis, appointed forensic pathologist Gregory Leon as Special Advisor.
