Deep grief in Agrinio has been caused by the murder of 43-year-old Dora by her 30-year-old ex-partner. The drama, which began on Monday afternoon, ended early today with the arrest of the perpetrator.
According to local media, the 30-year-old was found in a field of reeds in the area of Lake Trichonida and surrendered after negotiating with a police officer. His sister was also at the scene and had been trying to talk him out of harming himself for some time before.
He reportedly spent the evening at a village church, where he was forced to break the glass to get inside the church. In the morning he attempted to enter his house but was unsuccessful and went to an area near the lake where there is a shed.
There, his mother and sister were found, to whom he eventually handed over the murder weapon and a knife, having been persuaded by what a special police negotiator said. Subsequently, the police officers of the Security and the OPKE Agrinio arrested him and then transported him to the Agrinio Hospital and from there to the police building where he was detained. He has already been examined by a psychiatrist.
His sister describes the dramatic moments before his surrender.
“I was always at the window all night. At some point I saw him out on the green and I said to my mother ‘it’s Andreas'”, the 30-year-old’s sister originally told AgrinioPress after his delivery.
“We went down very quickly, shouting ‘surrender’. My mother went a little further down, she tried to grab the gun and take it from him, but she didn’t succeed. He didn’t come home. He came so we’ll see him but he told us ‘soon I will die, because I insulted my family, a person was lost'”. He thought we were lying to him, he didn’t know she wasn’t alive. “Call her now so I can talk to her,” said to his sister.
“He was remorseful for the act”
She went on to say: “He was remorseful for his act because he wanted to kill himself. I was tried hard to talk him out of it, and he kept thinking about it and putting the barrel either in his chest or in his head. Then I called the police, Mr. Kaliakmanis came, Mr. Nick the other policeman came and said “I’m unarmed, I’m here to help”. And so they took away his gun and the knife he had next to him.”
“He said to me, ‘Get out of here, or the cops will finish me off. I said they won’t hurt you, I’ll shield myself in front of you. I told him that my daughter is waiting for him to see him,” the 30-year-old’s sister further noted.
“I am a murderer, I did wrong”
“As soon as he realized what he had done he said ‘I want to blow my brains out’. ‘I’m a murderer, I did wrong.’ He was hitting his head with the gun,” his sister noted.
