Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is setting up an investment fund and one of his first investments will be in women’s basketball, according to a report in Bloomberg.
Antetokounmpo’s Build Your Legacy Ventures is backing Unrivaled, the professional 3-on-3 women’s basketball league that plays during the WNBA off-season. Games will begin in January with six teams and players, including star Breanna Stewart, who is one of the league’s founders.
Antetokounmpo joins a growing list of professional athletes involved in venture capital, which includes Andre Iguodala, Kevin Durant, and Serena Williams. It’s part of an evolution in the sports world following the rise in player earnings. The last two contracts Antetokounmpo signed totaled more than $400 million.
