New spatial arrangements and office moves are taking place within the Greek Parliament, following the latest split in SYRIZA after the defection of Theodora Tzakri and Giota Poulou. As a result, PASOK has now become the official opposition party, as it has the second-highest number of seats in Parliament.
SYRIZA workers cleared the office of Nikos Pappas, which will now serve as the political headquarters for PASOK’s leader, Nikos Androulakis.
The last SYRIZA employee has already vacated the office, and today the locks will be changed. Tomorrow, Friday, after the official announcements, the keys will be handed over to Mr. Androulakis.
The office number 69, located on the ground floor of the Parliament building across from the Prime Minister’s wing, will now house PASOK’s leader. This office has historically been the base for organizing opposition activities by several political figures, including George Papandreou, the last PASOK leader to use it during his time as leader of the opposition from 2004-2009, as well as Antonis Samaras, Alexis Tsipras, and Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
