SYRIZA debate draws over 638,000 viewers for at least one minute on ERT

The debate achieves an average viewership of 286,600 and sparks high engagement on social media

The televised debate among SYRIZA presidential candidates, which aired on ERT News on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, garnered significant interest from the viewing public.

According to available data, more than 638,000 viewers tuned in for at least one minute, with an average viewership of 286,600.

As per ERT’s announcement, the overall audience share averaged 7%, while among male viewers aged 55 and older, it reached 12.8%. On a minute-by-minute basis, the overall audience share peaked at 9.9%, and for men over 55, it climbed to 19.4%.

For this demographic group (men over 55), ERT News ranked third among nationwide television channels during prime time, despite the debate coinciding with the highly competitive evening slot.

In addition to the televised audience, there were 46,047 additional views (primarily via mobile devices) on ERTFLIX, the network’s digital platform.

The debate also generated significant engagement on social media, with the hashtag #debate trending as the top topic on “X” (formerly Twitter) from the start of the broadcast.

PASOK Debate Performance

Similarly, over 600,000 viewers tuned in for at least one minute of the PASOK presidential debate on ERT. Nielsen metrics analyzed by ERT’s Research and Analysis Department showed an average viewership of 300,000 during the prime time slot.

The overall audience share for the PASOK debate averaged 8%, while for men aged 55 and older, it reached 15.8%. On a per-minute basis, total audience share reached 10.7%, and among men over 55, it hit 20.7%.

The PASOK debate also saw 29,335 additional views on ERTFLIX and ERTNEWS1, the latter providing simultaneous interpretation in Greek sign language. Notably, 67% of these views came from PCs and tablets.
