To make up for lost time regarding the dwindling wounds of SYRIZA’s Progressive Alliance, Socrates Famellos, as the new party chairman opened “hot” files from yesterday, but also… a wide dialogue with deputies and top executives, since the accumulated pending issues are already creating suffocating conditions.
Speaking at Koumoundourou yesterday, Famellos gave a first indication, saying that “SYRIZA-PS will be serious, well-informed, will be stronger and open to Greek society”, against the backdrop of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ appointment to the Council of Ministers. “I believe politically that it is too late for the government to deal with purchasing power, when Greece is at the lowest points in Europe based on Eurostat data and a quarter of citizens are below the poverty and social exclusion line,” the new President of SYRIZA-PS said, while for the next day of the party, he said that “I will ask that this wave of strengthening of SYRIZA-PS continue. I would like our Organizations all over Greece to stay open, for the registration of new members to continue,e and for the campaign for Dawn and Red to continue.”
Besides, today begins for Mr. Famellos with successive meetings aimed at finding a viable solution for the party media, while he is expected to have a series of contacts with SYRIZA PS MPs to form a new “task force”, as the party’s Press Spokesman Pausanias Papageorgiou described yesterday. In addition, Mr. Famellos will attend an event commemorating the Turkish invasion of Cyprus this afternoon, meeting earlier in the day with Secretary General Stefanos Stefanou.
In any case, the “restart” of the party, as Mr. Famellos put it at the top of his priorities, “means also feeding SYRIZA-PS and the Left and the progressive party with new members”, he said, while the gaps that have been created, especially in the functioning of the Parliamentary Group, require immediate action and a reason for the daily production of opposition speech in the Parliament.
The “task force”
Aiming to restart SYRIZA PS at all levels, Famellos had a barrage of meetings yesterday at Koumoundourou with party Secretary Rania Svigou, the President of the CO of SYRIZA PS, Nikos Pappas, the Vice President of the Parliament, Olga Gerovassili, and the Economic Director of Koumoundourou, Christos Mavrokefalidis.
At the same time, Mr. Famellos’ main objective is expected to be the “single speech” of SYRIZA PS in the future, which is expected to be served by two main pools of persons, of the MPs who supported his candidacy for the party leadership, and the “87+”, who supported it on a nationwide organizational scale.
The new President of SYRIZA PS will have a series of contacts today until late afternoon with MPs, while reports suggest that the following will be utilized in the new organizational chart:
– Haris Mamoulakis
– Dionysis Kalamatianos
– Giorgios Karameros
– Christos Giannoulis
– Simeon Kedikoglou and
– Miltos Zambaras,
who formed the election team of the new President of SYRIZA PS.
In this context, it is not excluded that parliamentary tasks and roles will be redistributed after the departures of the “Kasselistas”, but also that an attempt will be made to contain any new centrifugal forces. Already, the MP of Argolida, George Gavrilos will submit today on his initiative a topical question on labor, which will be supported by the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA PS, while he will also position himself in the debate on the budget of the Parliament, which will follow.
Based on actual needs, the positions to be filled are:
– Secretary of the CO of SYRIZA (after Tzakri’s departure)
– Director of the CO of SYRIZA (after the departure of Moraitis),
– Parliamentary Representatives and deputies (after the resignation of Sarakiotis and Gavrilou),
While it is not excluded and redistribution of the sectors of production of opposition work, especially for the portfolios of Interior, Infrastructure – Transport, Economy – Development, but also Justice.
At the same time, the role and voice in the new day of SYRIZA PS and the new party organs will reportedly have a role and a voice in the new day of SYRIZA PS and the new party organs, many of the “87+” executives who stood by Socrates Famellos, such as:
– Olga Gerovassili
– Katerina Notopoulou
Katerina Kotelopoulos, who joined the party,
– Thanasis Theocharopoulos
– George Vassiliadis
– Yannis Ragousis
– Christos Spirtzis
– Yannis Bulekos
– Stergios Kalpakis
– Eleni Simeonidou
– Nikos Mademlis
– Tania Karagianni
Consequently, the new President of SYRIZA PS was accompanied by MPs:
– Theophilos Xanthopoulos
– George Psychogios
Theodoros Thoephanopoulos, the President of the Greek Parliament
– Kostas Barkas
– Marina Kontotoli
The person who will be chosen for the position of the Press Representative of Koumoundourou remains a question mark.
However, decisions on the key persons who will staff the “task force” in the party and in Parliament have not yet been taken, according to reports, since the frame of the next day in SYRIZA PS will undoubtedly include Pavlos Polakis.
In any case, the absence of the Syriza Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rena Dourou, from the election night caused a sensation in Syriza circles, although she came to the polling stations of western Athens, as she was at the Theatre instead of Koumoundourou. “Every opportunity to meet a great actor in a special film is a blessing. Rare and unique. And when they come at the end not only of a difficult day but overall of an extremely demanding period, then the blessing becomes a big hug,” she said in a post yesterday, preferring to meet with Tony Servillo, a well-known Italian leading man, “one of the greatest living actors,” she said.
In addition, within SYRIZA PS remains the MP for Piraeus, Nina Kasimatis, who clarified her position yesterday with a post in which she said that “as a founding member and MP of the victorious SYRIZA of noble expectations, I am not giving up”, while it has not yet been announced whether she will retain her position as SYRIZA’s representative to the Council of Europe, in the context of the broader parliamentary reorganization of the party’s forces.
Finally, within the next few hours, it is estimated that the MP for Fthiotida, Giannis Sarakiotis, who is reportedly moving towards the Movement for Democracy of Stefanos Kasselakis, will crystallize his stance. However, the 70,152 turnout at the SYRIZA PS polls seems to put the brakes on any new wave of departures to Taurus for the time being, given that it was a surprise for most of the MPs, but also a signal of rapid reconstruction of the party.
