Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Nikos Androulakis are set to finalize and announce their first meeting in the coming days, as reported by Protothema.gr. Initial consultations have been conducted to align the schedules of both leaders, with only one final confirmation pending to lock in the exact date.

Sources suggest the meeting will likely occur towards the end of next week, following Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ return from London. The prime minister will visit the UK capital on December 2 and 3, where he has a packed agenda that includes his first official meeting with Sir Keir Starmer at Downing Street, an event hosted by Morgan Stanley, and discussions with City investors. Mitsotakis is expected to return to Athens on the afternoon of December 3, creating an opening for the meeting.

Parliamentary Timelines

The meeting comes ahead of critical parliamentary activity, as the debate on the budget begins on December 11 and concludes with its passage on December 15.

Coordination for the meeting is managed by Stelios Koutnatzis, Secretary-General of the Prime Minister’s Office, and Andreas Spyropoulos, PASOK Secretary. While the two representatives have already initiated discussions, some details remain to be finalized. As reported by Protothema.gr, the meeting will likely occur in the Prime Minister’s parliamentary office, rather than the Megaron Maximou.

Political Jabs Amid Scheduling

While preparations for the meeting are underway, Mitsotakis did not hold back from criticizing Androulakis during a cabinet meeting. Referring to PASOK’s proposal for a VAT reduction, Mitsotakis accused the party leader of demagoguery, comparing his stance to SYRIZA’s rhetoric.

“His latest positions were very reminiscent of SYRIZA,” said Mitsotakis, addressing PASOK’s call for a 2-percentage point VAT reduction. “This would cost €3 billion alone, exceeding the European spending limits and automatically placing the country under surveillance.” He urged the opposition to avoid what he described as “demagogic fireworks.”

Optimism for 2027

In a closed-door segment of the cabinet meeting, Mitsotakis expressed confidence in another election victory for New Democracy in 2027. He highlighted the party’s achievements in the economy, upcoming tax cuts, and anticipated economic growth in 2026 and 2027 as key pillars for continued success.
