Olympiacos FC: “We stand against all forms of violence in society and sports”

The club condemns violence following allegations of fan misconduct during the Thessaloniki metro inauguration, emphasizing its commitment to eradicating violence in football and society

In response to Deputy Minister Nikos Tachiaos’ statement regarding potential criminal acts by fans during the inauguration of the Thessaloniki metro, Olympiacos FC issued an announcement strongly condemning all forms of violence.

Call for Prosecutor’s Intervention

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Nikos Tachiaos called for prosecutorial intervention to prevent possible criminal acts on the day of the Thessaloniki metro’s inauguration. This request, addressing potential misconduct by fans of a Thessaloniki football team, prompted Olympiacos FC to issue a public statement against violence.

Olympiacos FC’s Statement

“With regard to publicized threats made by a football official towards a government representative, involving potential fan violence, Olympiacos FC consistently and unequivocally condemns and opposes all forms of violence in society, as well as any practices involving threats or extortion by unlawful elements.

Olympiacos FC has long engaged in initiatives aimed at raising awareness and preventing such phenomena from tarnishing Greek football. Additionally, the club has successfully organized major matches both at home and abroad, ensuring the seamless participation of thousands of its fans.

Violence has no place in Greek society or our stadiums. This remains the steadfast and unwavering position of Olympiacos FC’s administration and its president, Mr. Evangelos Marinakis.

In collaboration with the Super League, the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), UEFA, and the government, Olympiacos FC will continue to strive daily, with zero tolerance, to eliminate violence and threats, ensuring that football and sports events become a celebration for all fans.”
