A major operation by the Organized Crime Sub-Division of Northern Greece is underway at an art studio in Thessaloniki.

According to reports, the investigation concerns a criminal organization that allegedly forged paintings by well-known and famous painters and then sold them for very high sums of money, making huge profits.

The same reports said that members of the criminal organization were making the fake paintings available to auction houses in Europe. Police officers are currently at the site collecting evidence – hundreds of paintings to be taken to the GADT, while three people have been arrested. Paintings were also found in the apartment building next to the gallery.

The operation is ongoing and after the end of the investigation, there will be an official update from the police.
