For three long weeks, Michael Nedelkos and Evangeline Naka, employees of a ski resort’s café-bar in Kaimaktsalan, have been staying in the chalet, facing harsh conditions. The team had been there since Nov. 15 to organize the space and prepare for the café-bar opening, scheduled for Nov. 30. But intense snowfall since November 29 and a lack of road clearing kept them stranded until December 4.

The problems were exacerbated when a power outage occurred on the morning of December 4, which to date has not been restored. “Our stay here was deemed necessary to preserve the food in the refrigerators and freezers,” Michael Nedelkos explained to Protothema. Voluntarily, the two employees decided to stay, ensuring the operation of the site.

By December 4, a total of nine people were trapped in the chalet, including the director of the EBRD and two security guards. The release of the trapped persons took place in the afternoon of that day when a Civil Protection vehicle picked up three women. The director stayed for another day and then left with one of the security guards, leaving behind the two café-bar employees.

The situation at the ski resort remains difficult, with the lack of power making daily life extremely challenging. Employees are appealing for immediate intervention to restore conditions and allow the site to continue to be prepared smoothly.
