The United States joined nine other countries and the European Union today in condemning the growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, the nations said in a joint statement.
North Korea’s “direct” support for Russia in its war against Ukraine poses a “dangerous escalation” of the conflict, the U.S. and its allies cautioned.
“We will continue to act in coordination, including through the imposition of economic sanctions, to respond to the threat posed by the partnership between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Russia,” the statement reads.
“We call on North Korea to immediately cease all assistance to Russia in its aggressive war against Ukraine, including withdrawing its troops,” demand the foreign ministers of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union in the statement.
